The Fens

The Cambridgeshire Fens are like a breath of fresh air, a chance to get away from it all. The expansive landscape of the Fens forms one of the most distinctive areas of Britain. The Cambridgeshire Fens are the ideal place for a short break, to relax and unwind.Fenland is a unique landscape formed by nature and shaped by people over more than 6000 years, a landscape that has fed, clothed and sheltered them, with its very own history, its own culture, its own way of working. There is much to see and do in the Cambridgeshire Fens.

You can visit Wisbech, take in its fine Georgian architecture, or simply enjoy the area's unique landscape with its spectacular skies. Perhaps waterways are more your thing. In which case you could take a leisurely trip by narrow boat along some of the least crowded watercourses in Britain, or follow the long tradition of fishing in an area that offers coarse fishing of the highest quality. A final suggestion is to join in the annual celebrations of the Whittlesey Straw Bear and Wisbech Rose Fair. Wisbech, Chatteris, Whittlesey and March all have fine museums documenting the fascinating Fens.
